HubSpot vs HighLevel (GoHighLevel): which to choose to grow
HighLevel is the Swiss Army knife of marketing agencies: funnels, SMS and white label. HubSpot is the platform for a company to grow on a single CRM. Here is which one suits you.
If you are an agency that wants to offer dozens of local businesses a funnel, SMS and automation platform under your own brand, HighLevel (also known as GoHighLevel) is built for that. If you are a company that wants to organise its marketing, sales and service on a solid CRM, with reliable reporting and room to grow, HubSpot is the better choice in the vast majority of cases.
In this comparison we explain how they really differ, where each one shines and why, for a growing company, HubSpot comes out ahead.
Quick verdict: HighLevel is a great tool for agencies reselling white-label software and for local businesses that live on funnels, appointments and SMS. HubSpot wins for companies that need a central CRM for marketing, sales and service: it is easier for the whole team to adopt, offers deeper reporting, a far larger integration ecosystem, AI across the whole cycle and a more predictable total cost.
What is HighLevel (GoHighLevel)?
HighLevel is a US platform, headquartered in Dallas, that bundles many small-business marketing tools into a single subscription: CRM and pipelines, a website and funnel builder, forms and surveys, appointment calendars, email and SMS, a unified inbox with WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, review management, courses and communities, invoices and payments, a social media planner and workflows.
Its model is built for agencies: an agency account manages sub-accounts, one per client, and higher plans allow white labelling and even reselling the platform as your own software (what HighLevel calls SaaS mode). Its typical customer is a marketing agency serving clinics, gyms, estate agents or local service businesses.
What is HubSpot?
HubSpot is a customer platform built on a shared CRM, Smart CRM, with Marketing Hub, Sales Hub, Service Hub, Content Hub, Data Hub and Revenue Hub on top and the Breeze AI layer. They all share the same database of contacts, companies, deals and tickets.
Its typical customer is a B2B or B2C company that wants marketing, sales and service working on the same data: from an SME with five sales reps to a business with several teams and countries. HubSpot is not a suite to resell; it is the company’s own central system.
CRM and data model
HighLevel’s CRM revolves around the contact, with tags, custom fields, opportunities in pipelines and custom objects as well. For a local business managing appointments and individual customers, that is enough. In B2B sales, where companies, multiple stakeholders and several opportunities per account matter, it becomes a tighter fit.
HubSpot separates contacts, companies, deals, tickets, products and quotes, with labelled associations between records and custom objects on Enterprise. That lets you model complex processes, such as several entities in a group, contracts or renewals, without tag workarounds, and then analyse the whole cycle.
Marketing: funnels or a marketing platform?
This is where HighLevel is strong. Its funnel and website builder is very flexible, and it combines email, SMS, WhatsApp, voice messages and reactivation campaigns with ready-made templates. For capturing leads from ads and turning them into appointments, it is very effective.
Marketing Hub covers the same journey with a more strategic approach: landing pages, forms, email, ads, social media, behavioural segmentation, lead scoring and, above all, revenue attribution. You know which campaign generated the sale, not just the lead. With Content Hub you add website, blog and content management on the same CRM.
Sales and customer service
HighLevel offers pipelines, calendars with reminders, estimates, invoices and payments, plus a mobile app for replying to conversations. For businesses that sell appointments or simple services it works well. But it is not designed as a help desk with tickets, SLAs and a knowledge base.
Sales Hub adds follow-up sequences, forecasting, playbooks, quotes, a prospecting workspace and team management with permissions. Service Hub brings tickets, SLAs, a knowledge base, a customer portal and surveys. All on the same record, so the rep knows whether the customer has an open issue before calling.
Before
- Funnels and SMS in an agency account
- Spreadsheets to see results
- WhatsApp support with no follow-up
- Automations only their builder understands
After
- Your own marketing, sales and service CRM
- Dashboards with revenue attribution
- Tickets with SLAs and a knowledge base
- Documented workflows that are easy to maintain
Automation and AI: Breeze vs HighLevel’s AI
HighLevel workflows are powerful and very versatile, with triggers from forms, appointments, payments or messages. On the AI side, it offers conversation and voice agents that handle chats and calls, content assistance and automated review replies, largely as add-ons with usage-based billing.
HubSpot builds Breeze into the whole platform: Breeze Assistant writes, summarises and prepares meetings; Breeze agents serve customers using your knowledge base, research accounts for prospecting or improve data quality. Workflows act on contacts, companies, deals, tickets and custom objects, with branching and custom code on higher editions. And because everything lives in the same CRM, the AI works with the full customer context.
Reporting and analytics
HighLevel includes dashboards plus attribution, call and appointment reports, geared towards showing campaign results to an agency’s clients. For leadership analysis across several departments, it falls short.
HubSpot lets you build custom reports combining marketing, sales and service, forecasts, funnel analysis and multi-touch attribution. For a managing director or a RevOps lead, having all of that in a single source of truth is what makes decisions possible without exporting to Excel.
Integrations and API
HighLevel has an app marketplace and a developer API, and many connections are handled through platforms such as Zapier. Its telephony, SMS and email run on built-in providers that are billed by usage.
HubSpot has one of the largest marketplaces on the market and a mature API, plus tooling to build custom apps and extensions inside the CRM. ERP, invoicing, payment gateways, telephony and BI connect without bending the data model. It is what we do every day in our HubSpot integrations work.
Which is easier to use?
HighLevel’s breadth comes at a price: many users on G2, Capterra and forums agree that the learning curve is demanding and the interface can feel cluttered. Agencies that master it get a lot out of it; in-house teams usually need more time and help.
HubSpot is known for its ease of use. Marketing, sales and service work in a consistent interface, with role-based views and permissions, and adoption is usually quick with team-by-team training. For a company, a CRM people actually use is worth more than any feature.
Implementation and total cost of ownership
HighLevel charges a subscription per agency account, with plans that differ mainly in the number of sub-accounts, white labelling and API access, and with unlimited users and contacts. On top of that come usage costs (calls, SMS, email and AI) and optional add-ons. See the details on its official pricing page.
HubSpot has free CRM tools and Starter, Professional and Enterprise editions per hub, licensed per seat and, for marketing, by contacts; details are on HubSpot’s official pricing. On paper HighLevel can look cheaper, but to compare properly add the variable usage, setup and maintenance time, the specialist needed to keep it running and the service or analytics tools you would have to add. For many companies, total cost ends up tipping in HubSpot’s favour.
Support, community and partners
HighLevel has a very active agency community, its own training and support across several channels, although opinions on support response times are mixed. Its ecosystem is heavily centred on the US market.
HubSpot offers a free academy, a global community and a worldwide network of certified partners. Vexco is a HubSpot Diamond Solutions Partner, rated 4.9/5 in HubSpot’s directory, with a team of 19 people across Barcelona and Dubai where consultants and developers work side by side.
Security, GDPR and EU data hosting
HighLevel publishes privacy and security documentation, but it is a US company focused mainly on that market, and some capabilities, such as healthcare compliance, are sold as add-ons. If you process data on European customers, review its data processing agreement and data location. HubSpot lets you host your account in its European Union data centre and provides consent management, team-based permissions, audit logs and single sign-on on higher editions.

When might HighLevel make sense?
- You are an agency that wants to resell a platform under its own brand to many small clients.
- Your clients are local businesses whose process is ad, funnel, appointment and SMS reminder.
- You have someone technical willing to master the tool and maintain its automations.
- You do not need tickets, complex leadership reporting or a B2B data model.
If you are also comparing other SME suites, you may find HubSpot vs Clientify or HubSpot vs Kommo useful.
Verdict: why HubSpot wins
HighLevel is excellent at what it does, which is giving agencies a resellable toolbox. But for a company that wants to grow, HubSpot is the better choice:
- A CRM built for your company, not for reselling. A B2B and B2C data model, team permissions and a single source of truth.
- Real adoption. An interface that marketing, sales and service use from the first month without relying on a specialist.
- Proper customer service. Service Hub with tickets, SLAs, a knowledge base and a portal.
- Leadership reporting and attribution. From click to revenue to renewal, on one dashboard.
- Ecosystem, AI and compliance. Thousands of integrations, Breeze across the cycle and EU data hosting.
- More predictable cost. Licences by hub and edition, less variable usage and fewer maintenance hours.
How to migrate from HighLevel to HubSpot
HubSpot does not include HighLevel in its automatic transfer tool, so the migration combines exports, the HighLevel API and careful mapping. These are the steps we follow:
- 01Inventory of sub-accounts, funnels and workflows
- 02Mapping contacts, tags and opportunities
- 03Clean-up and deduplication
- 04Rebuilding forms and automations
- 05Cut-over, domains and training
- Objects. Contacts map to contacts; opportunities become deals in a pipeline; and if you sell B2B, create companies and associate them, something HighLevel often keeps in a plain field.
- Properties and tags. HighLevel relies heavily on tags for segmentation and triggering automations. In HubSpot, many should become properties with defined values or lists.
- History. Notes, appointments and relevant conversations are migrated as activities on the record. Decide how far back is worth bringing over.
- Funnels, websites and workflows. They do not migrate as they are: they are rebuilt as HubSpot landing pages, forms and workflows, which is the perfect chance to simplify them.
- Typical pitfalls. Forgetting the email-sending domains and DNS records, leaving old forms live and losing communication consent during import.
At Vexco we have carried out CRM migrations from Clientify, Salesforce and Odoo, and we run every project in phases, testing on real data before cut-over.
