HubSpot vs Freshsales: a full comparison and which to choose

Freshsales is a nimble sales CRM with built-in calling and Freddy AI; HubSpot, a platform uniting marketing, sales and service on one CRM. An in-depth comparison with a clear verdict.

HubSpot vs Freshsales: a full comparison and which to choose

If your team only sells and wants a CRM that is quick to roll out, with phone, email and chat built in, Freshsales is a very reasonable option. If you also need to generate and nurture leads, measure which campaigns drive revenue and serve customers from the same record, HubSpot is the better choice for most growing companies. Below we compare them criterion by criterion, strengths included.

Quick verdict: Freshsales shines as a nimble sales CRM with built-in calling and a clean interface. HubSpot wins as soon as the business needs more than selling: marketing, service, full-funnel reporting and AI all run on one CRM, backed by a far larger ecosystem of integrations and partners.

What are Freshsales and HubSpot?

Freshsales is the sales CRM from Freshworks, a publicly listed company founded in India and headquartered in California, best known for Freshdesk and Freshservice. For a while it was marketed as Freshworks CRM. It comes in Growth, Pro and Enterprise editions, and there is also Freshsales Suite, which adds marketing features from Freshmarketer. Its AI is called Freddy.

Its typical customer is an SME or mid-sized company with a phone- and email-heavy sales team that wants all of that inside the CRM without integrations and values a fast start.

HubSpot is a customer platform built on a single CRM, Smart CRM, with Marketing Hub, Sales Hub, Service Hub, Content Hub and Data Hub on top and Breeze as the AI layer. Its typical customer is a growing company that wants marketing, sales and service aligned without stitching tools together.

CRM and data model

Freshsales works with contacts, accounts, deals and sales activities, with lifecycle stages, custom fields and, on Enterprise, custom modules. It is a simple model and enough for a sales team.

HubSpot starts from contacts, companies, deals, tickets, products, quotes and leads, with associations that can carry labels (for example "decision maker" or "payer") and custom objects on Enterprise editions. The fundamental difference is not the number of objects but the fact that marketing and service write to the same model: the ticket, the campaign email and the deal all hang off the same company.

Sales: calling, sequences and pipeline

This is where Freshsales is strong. It ships with built-in phone, email and chat from the entry edition, Kanban deal views and templates. Pro adds sales sequences, territory management, custom sales activities, contact scoring and deal insights. For a team that lives on the phone, having it all on the record without integrations is a real advantage, and users rate it highly.

Sales Hub covers the same ground and goes further: multiple pipelines with stage requirements, sequences, calling from the CRM or through telephony apps in the marketplace, meetings, quotes, forecasting, playbooks, conversation intelligence on higher editions and a prospecting workspace with AI agents. Reps also see on the record which content the lead consumed and which issues are open.

Marketing: Freshsales Suite versus Marketing Hub

On its own, Freshsales is a sales CRM. For marketing, Freshworks offers Freshsales Suite and Freshmarketer, with email, SMS and WhatsApp campaigns, automated journeys, forms, landing pages, chatbots and segmentation. It is a sound proposition for campaigns and nurturing.

Marketing Hub plays in a different league in terms of depth: beyond email and automation it includes forms, landing pages, blog and website with Content Hub, SEO, social media, ads, lead scoring, campaign management and multi-touch revenue attribution. If your growth depends on content and digital marketing, this difference carries a lot of weight.

Customer service

In Freshdesk, Freshworks has one of the best-known help desks on the market, and it is a good product. But it is a different product from Freshsales: they integrate, yet each has its own interface, users and logic.

Service Hub lives in the same CRM as sales and marketing: tickets, a shared inbox, knowledge base, customer portal, surveys and AI agents that answer enquiries. Sales sees open issues before a renewal, and service sees the contract and commercial history without asking for it.

Automation

Freshsales includes workflows from the entry edition and, on Enterprise, workflows on custom modules. They cover the usual needs: assigning, creating tasks, updating fields or sending emails. In reviews, some users miss extra flexibility once processes become more complex.

HubSpot workflows act on any object, with branches, delays, owner rotation, webhooks and, on Data Hub Professional or Enterprise, code actions in JavaScript or Python. For bespoke needs there are private apps and UI Extensions, which we use every day in our projects.

Artificial intelligence: Breeze versus Freddy AI

Freddy AI provides contact scoring, deal insights, forecasting, next-step suggestions and email drafting. Freshworks also offers AI agents and copilot features, some of them as paid usage-based add-ons. It is useful AI, well embedded in the sales flow.

Breeze includes an assistant available across the platform, agents that handle customer enquiries, prospect or complete data, and company and contact enrichment. The structural advantage is context: Breeze sees what the contact did on the website, in emails, in sales and in support, because everything sits in the same CRM. A sales AI that cannot see marketing or service is working with half the story.

Reporting and analytics

Freshsales offers clear sales reports and dashboards, with forecasting on higher editions. The most frequent criticism in user reviews concerns reporting flexibility: when complex cross-analysis is needed, it falls short. HubSpot offers custom reports that combine objects, executive dashboards, attribution and forecasting, with the full funnel from marketing to renewal in one place.

Integrations and API

Freshworks has its own marketplace and API, and its products integrate with each other. HubSpot has one of the largest ecosystems on the market: a marketplace with an enormous range of apps, a thoroughly documented public API, webhooks and a very active developer community. When a connector is missing, it is easier to find someone to build and maintain it.

Which is easier to use?

Both score highly. Freshsales has a clean interface and is quick to learn, which is one of its most common compliments. HubSpot is also among the highest-rated CRMs for ease of use, with the bonus that the experience is the same across marketing, sales and service, and HubSpot Academy offers free training for every role. On adoption, the difference appears as you grow: one environment is taught once; three products, three times.

Implementation and total cost of ownership

Freshsales is licensed per user and edition, with a free trial and add-ons such as branded documents or AI agent sessions; Freshsales Suite and Freshdesk are purchased separately. HubSpot offers free tools, Starter, Professional and Enterprise editions per hub or as a bundle, and licences by seat type; some AI features consume credits. Check the official HubSpot pricing and Freshsales pricing pages.

To compare properly, add up over three years the licences for every product you will need (CRM, marketing, help desk), the integrations between them, implementation, admin hours and the cost of redesigning processes as the business grows. On that basis, a single platform usually looks better than the entry licence suggests.

Support, community and roadmap

Reviews of Freshworks support are mixed: some users are very happy, while others describe slow resolution of complex issues. According to its investor communications, most of Freshworks’ business and growth comes from employee service management (Freshservice). That says nothing about Freshsales itself, but it is worth asking about the roadmap before committing long term.

HubSpot keeps the CRM at the heart of its strategy, with support by edition, a huge community, HubSpot Academy and a global partner network. At Vexco we are a HubSpot Diamond Solutions Partner, combining consulting and development in one team of 19 people across Barcelona and Dubai.

Security, GDPR and EU data hosting

Freshworks has data centres in the United States, Europe, India and Australia, and allows EU data hosting depending on the plan. HubSpot lets you host your account in its EU data centre and provides consent tools, a cookie banner, data deletion, audit logs, two-factor authentication and SSO on higher editions. In both cases, review the data processing agreement and sub-processor list with your legal adviser.

When could Freshsales make sense?

  • Your team is purely sales, spends a lot of time on the phone and wants calls, email and chat in the CRM without integrations.
  • You already use Freshdesk, you are happy with it and prefer to stay with one vendor.
  • Marketing plays a small role in your pipeline and you do not need revenue attribution.
  • You want a very fast rollout and do not expect major process changes in the short term.

Verdict: why HubSpot wins

  1. A platform, not a set of products. Marketing, sales and service share records, properties and reports without internal integrations.
  2. Truly integrated marketing. Lead generation, nurturing, scoring and attribution live where the rep sells.
  3. Breeze with full context. The AI sees the entire customer journey, not just the sales part.
  4. Full-funnel reporting. From first click to renewal, without exporting to spreadsheets.
  5. Ecosystem and partners. More integrations, more available talent and a CRM at the centre of the vendor’s strategy.

How to migrate from Freshsales to HubSpot

Start by listing what you actually use: contacts, accounts, deals, sales activities, custom modules, sequences, territories and any connection to Freshdesk or Freshmarketer. Map accounts to companies, deals to deals with their stages, and lifecycle stages to HubSpot’s.

  1. 01Inventory of modules and tools
  2. 02Clean-up and deduplication
  3. 03Mapping objects and properties
  4. 04Test migration with history
  5. 05Cut-over and team training
Fig. 3 Phases of a Freshsales to HubSpot migration with history intact.

History is the delicate part: notes, emails, calls and tasks must arrive associated with the right contact, company and deal. Custom modules become custom objects or properties, depending on their complexity. Active sequences are rebuilt in Sales Hub and should be paused before cut-over to avoid duplicate sends. Territories translate into teams and assignment rules. Typical pitfalls: owners with no equivalent user, misaligned picklist values and duplicates between contacts and accounts.

Plan the data clean-up and a cut-over plan first. At Vexco we have migrated to HubSpot from Salesforce, Odoo and Clientify with full history; with Freshsales we apply the same method within our migration service, and if you keep Freshdesk during a transition, we integrate it with HubSpot so nobody works blind.

FAQs

What clients ask us before we start

Is Freshsales better than HubSpot for a sales team?

For a team that only sells and wants built-in calling and email with little configuration, Freshsales is a perfectly valid choice. If you also need lead generation, nurturing, attribution or customer service on the same record, HubSpot is the better option because it covers everything in one platform.

What is Freshsales Suite?

It is the Freshworks offering that combines the Freshsales sales CRM with marketing automation features from Freshmarketer, such as email, SMS and WhatsApp campaigns, automated journeys and forms. Customer service still lives in separate products such as Freshdesk.

What is the difference between Freddy AI and Breeze?

Freddy AI is Freshworks’ AI: contact scoring, deal insights, forecasting and email drafting, with AI agents available as an add-on. Breeze is HubSpot’s AI: an assistant, agents and data enrichment across marketing, sales and service on a single CRM.

Is it hard to migrate from Freshsales to HubSpot?

It is a manageable migration because the data models are similar: contacts, accounts, deals and activities. What needs more planning is custom modules, call and email history, active sequences and the Freshdesk integration if you use it.
