HubSpot vs folk: which CRM to choose as your team grows

folk is a light, pleasant CRM for managing relationships and prospecting. HubSpot brings marketing, sales and service together on one platform. Here is which fits, and when.

HubSpot vs folk: which CRM to choose as your team grows

If your company wants to attract, sell to and support customers from a single CRM that can keep up with growth, HubSpot is the better choice in most cases. folk is a light, fast and very pleasant CRM for managing relationships and prospecting, ideal for small teams, but its scope stops at sales and contacts: marketing, service and leadership reporting all need other tools.

Quick verdict: choose HubSpot if you want a platform that covers the whole customer lifecycle, with powerful automation, full-funnel reporting, Breeze and an ecosystem that grows with you. folk may be enough for a founder, a small agency or a partnerships team that lives in LinkedIn and email and does not need more yet.

We are a HubSpot Diamond partner, so we have a side and say so. folk has very clear strengths and many users love it for its simplicity. Here we compare the two honestly, criterion by criterion, so you know at which stage of growth each one makes sense.

What are folk and HubSpot?

folk is a CRM built in France that started as a lightweight alternative to traditional CRMs, with an experience closer to tools like Notion or Airtable. It organises people and companies into groups, lets you set up pipelines, enriches contacts, connects to LinkedIn through its folkX extension and syncs email, calendar and WhatsApp. It is used mainly by founders, agencies, consultancies, investment funds and small sales or partnerships teams.

HubSpot is a customer platform built on Smart CRM, with Marketing Hub, Sales Hub, Service Hub, Content Hub, Data Hub and Revenue Hub on top and Breeze as its AI layer. The idea is that every team works with the same data and the company can switch on new capabilities without changing systems.

CRM and contact management: groups versus a data model

Contact management is the heart of folk, and it does it very well. You import from LinkedIn, Gmail or a CSV, organise people into groups with their own fields and views, and enrichment fills in email addresses and company data. For anyone managing a personal network, the experience is almost instant.

HubSpot offers a more complete CRM model: contacts, companies, deals, tickets, products and activities, with labelled associations and custom objects in Enterprise. In exchange for a little more structure, you get deduplication, lifecycle properties, dynamic segments and a 360-degree view that feeds marketing, sales, service and reporting at the same time. Some folk users mention in reviews having to check duplicates by hand when importing from LinkedIn; in HubSpot, deduplication and data quality are part of the product.

Which is better for selling and prospecting?

folk is designed for modern prospecting: you capture leads from LinkedIn in one click, find email addresses with enrichment credits, send personalised email campaigns and, on the higher plan, run multichannel sequences with conditions. Pipelines are simple and clear, and AI assistants help research accounts and draft follow-ups.

Sales Hub covers prospecting with sequences, a prospecting workspace, templates, meeting scheduling and calling, and adds what a growing sales team needs: multiple pipelines, quotes, sales forecasting, playbooks, conversation intelligence, teams and permissions. Some features depend on the edition. If you are also comparing with a classic sales CRM, see HubSpot vs Pipedrive.

Can folk handle marketing?

folk lets you send personalised email campaigns to groups of contacts, which is very handy for simple newsletters or updates to your network. But it is not a marketing automation tool: it does not include landing pages, behaviour-based nurturing, marketing lead scoring, ads management or revenue attribution.

Marketing Hub covers that whole journey on the same CRM: forms, landing pages, emails, nurturing workflows, lead scoring, ads, social media and multi-touch attribution. Once lead generation starts to depend on your website and content, not just your network, this is the difference that matters most.

Customer service

folk has no support module with tickets, a portal or a knowledge base; it is focused on relationships and sales. To support customers you need another product and a connection to it.

Service Hub provides a shared inbox, tickets, SLAs, a customer portal, a knowledge base, surveys and the Breeze customer agent, all on the same customer record sales sees. For an agency or a services business, seeing issues and satisfaction alongside opportunities changes the quality of every sales conversation.

Automation: light assistants versus workflows

folk’s native automation is light: sequences with conditions, reminders and AI assistants that, for example, update fields or create tasks after an interaction. For more complex processes, the usual route is Zapier, Make or its API. User reviews broadly agree that this is one of its weaker areas.

Workflows are one of HubSpot’s pillars: they act on contacts, companies, deals, tickets and custom objects, with branches, delays, owner rotation, webhooks and custom code in higher editions. That lets you automate handoffs between teams, renewal alerts or lead assignment without relying on external connectors.

AI: Breeze versus folk’s assistants

folk includes AI assistants for research, follow-up and workflows, plus magic fields that generate or classify information with AI, with monthly allowances depending on the plan. They are well woven into day-to-day prospecting.

Breeze goes further because it works across the whole platform. Breeze Assistant answers and drafts with the context of the entire CRM, Breeze agents cover customer service, prospecting and data quality, and enrichment fills in company and contact details. Because marketing, sales and service sit together in HubSpot, the AI has the customer’s full history to prioritise and personalise. Usage is measured in credits that depend on the edition.

Reporting and dashboards

folk offers dashboards on its higher plan to track pipeline and activity. For a small team that is enough; for leadership, what is usually missing is a view of marketing, revenue and service on the same dashboard.

HubSpot builds reports on a single data model: revenue attribution, visitor-to-customer funnel, forecasting, sales activity and service performance. Data Hub adds datasets and data quality tools so the numbers reconcile.

Integrations and API

folk has native integrations with email, calendar, LinkedIn and WhatsApp, a public API, an MCP server and connections to thousands of apps through Zapier and Make. For a small team that is usually enough, although some users miss specific native connectors.

HubSpot brings an App Marketplace with well over a thousand native apps, APIs for objects, associations and webhooks, private apps and UI Extensions. Invoicing, ERP, ecommerce, telephony and WhatsApp usually have their own connector, and when they do not, custom HubSpot integrations are built on a solid foundation.

Ease of use and adoption

folk is probably one of the easiest CRMs to get started with: a minimalist, fast interface with no setup. It is its big strength and the reason many teams choose it over heavier CRMs.

HubSpot is also easy to use and is designed so that sales, marketing and support can adopt it without technical training. It needs a bit more initial configuration, because it does more, but that setup is done once and saves you assembling and maintaining several tools. HubSpot Academy helps train each role.

Implementation, pricing and total cost of ownership

folk runs on paid per-member plans with a free trial, and each plan sets allowances for enrichment, messages and AI usage; features such as sequences, dashboards, custom objects and API access are reserved for higher plans. See folk pricing.

HubSpot has free CRM tools and Starter, Professional and Enterprise editions, per hub or as a bundle, with seats and credits depending on the edition. See HubSpot pricing. For a real comparison, add to folk the email marketing tool, the helpdesk, the automation platform and the time spent maintaining those connections. With HubSpot, count only the hubs you will use and an initial implementation that, in our projects, typically takes 4 to 8 weeks for Sales or Marketing Hub.

Support, community, partners and security

Support and ecosystem

folk offers a help centre and chat support, and many users praise how quick it is, although others report uneven response times. HubSpot adds a huge community, HubSpot Academy and a global network of certified partners to implement, integrate and build.

Security, GDPR and EU data hosting

As a European company, folk states GDPR compliance and SOC 2 certification, and its website refers to data hosting in Europe; it is worth confirming the exact terms in its documentation. HubSpot lets you host your account in its EU data centre and includes consent, lawful basis and subscription management designed with GDPR in mind.

When might folk make sense?

folk is a sensible option in these cases:

  • You are a founder, consultant or small agency and your business runs on your network and LinkedIn.
  • You have a partnerships, investment or fundraising team that manages relationships rather than funnels.
  • You need to start tomorrow, with no implementation project, and your process fits into a couple of pipelines.
  • You do not run demand generation or structured customer service, or you already handle them with other tools.

Verdict: why HubSpot wins

For most companies that want to grow, HubSpot is the better choice. Here is why:

  1. It grows with you without a system change. Start with sales and switch on marketing, service or content on the same CRM when you need them.
  2. Real automation. Multi-object workflows that connect teams without depending on external connectors.
  3. Native marketing and service. Lead generation, nurturing, attribution and support on the same customer record.
  4. Reporting leadership understands. From first click to revenue and renewal, on one dashboard.
  5. AI with full context. Breeze sees the customer’s entire history, not just the sales relationship.
  6. Lower total cost over time. Fewer tools, fewer integrations to maintain and a partner ecosystem to help you.

How to migrate from folk to HubSpot

HubSpot Smart Transfer does not list folk as a source, but the migration is straightforward with good preparation, because folk data is mostly contacts, companies and pipelines. The steps we follow:

  • Export: export your folk groups to CSV, or pull the data through the API if you want to keep relationships and interactions.
  • Clean: deduplicate people and companies, normalise company names and review enriched email addresses before loading anything.
  • Map: groups become lists or properties, custom fields become properties, and folk pipelines become deal pipelines with their stages.
  • History: notes, reminders and interactions need their own plan; decide how far back to go and connect inboxes in HubSpot.
  • Rebuild automation: replace folk sequences, Zaps and Make scenarios with native sequences and workflows.

The typical mistake is migrating without deciding what each group represents, and ending up with duplicate lists nobody maintains. At Vexco we approach these moves as a phased HubSpot implementation, with consultants and developers in the same team, so the migration also improves the process.

  1. Week 1Audit and CRM design
  2. Week 2Data cleanup and mapping
  3. Week 3Migration and validation
  4. Week 4Workflows, sequences and integrations
  5. Week 5Training and go-live

FAQs

What clients ask us before we start

Is folk a real CRM or a contact manager?

folk is a lightweight CRM focused on contacts and relationships: it groups people and companies, manages pipelines, sends campaigns and sequences, and integrates with LinkedIn and email. It handles prospecting and follow-up well, but it does not include full marketing automation, customer service or full-funnel reporting like HubSpot.

Which is better for an agency or consultancy, folk or HubSpot?

For a small agency that runs on relationships and referrals, folk is quick and convenient. Once the agency starts generating leads through content and campaigns, managing several salespeople or supporting clients, HubSpot is the better choice because it brings everything together on one CRM.

Is folk free?

folk runs on paid per-member plans and offers a free trial. HubSpot has free CRM tools and paid Starter, Professional and Enterprise editions. Check both vendors’ official pricing pages, as terms change.

How do I move my contacts from folk to HubSpot?

Export your folk groups to CSV or pull the data through its API, remove duplicates and map fields to HubSpot properties. Groups usually become lists or properties, pipelines become deal pipelines, and notes and interactions need their own plan so you do not lose history.
