HubSpot vs Attio: an in-depth comparison and which to choose
Attio is a modern, highly flexible CRM popular with startups. HubSpot unites marketing, sales and service on a mature platform. We compare both and explain which suits you.
If your company wants a CRM that connects marketing, sales and customer service and grows with you without piling on tools, HubSpot is the better option in most cases. Attio is a modern, fast CRM with a very flexible data model that suits startups with technical teams, but it focuses on sales and relationships, leaving marketing and service outside its scope.
Quick verdict: choose HubSpot if you need to generate demand, sell and support customers on the same data, with leadership reporting, Breeze and a mature ecosystem of integrations and partners. Attio can suit a small, highly technical team focused on sales or relationship management that values modelling its own data.
We are a HubSpot Diamond partner, so it is only right to say so. Attio is a well-built product that has earned its popularity on merit, and we will treat it fairly. The useful question is not which one is more modern, but which one will better solve your company’s problem two or three years from now.
What are Attio and HubSpot?
Attio is a London-built CRM that describes itself as AI-native. Its proposition is a data model that adapts to your business: standard objects such as people, companies and deals, custom objects and attributes, lists for each process and automatic email and calendar sync to map your network of relationships. It is very popular with startups, investment funds and software companies running product-led sales.
HubSpot is a customer platform built on Smart CRM, with Marketing Hub, Sales Hub, Service Hub, Content Hub, Data Hub and Revenue Hub on top and Breeze as its AI layer. It has been on the market for many years, is used by everyone from small businesses to mid-sized and large companies, and is designed so that every team works from the same data and the same interface.
CRM and data model: flexibility versus structure
This is Attio’s headline argument. You can create objects, attributes, two-way relationships and lists with their own statuses in minutes, and the interface feels a lot like Notion or Airtable. For teams running unconventional processes, such as investments, partnerships or recruitment, that freedom is very appealing.
HubSpot starts from a more defined structure: contacts, companies, deals, tickets, products and activities, with labelled associations and, in Enterprise editions, custom objects. It may look less free, but it has a big advantage: every tool on the platform understands that model. Forms, workflows, reports, attribution and Breeze work from day one without any redesign. Which is better for the sales team?
Attio handles selling well: pipelines as lists with stages, automatic record enrichment, email sending, sequences plus call recording and analysis on higher plans, and forecasts in its reports. Many users praise how fast the interface is and its Gmail extension.
Sales Hub offers all of this with more operational depth: sequences, meeting scheduling, templates, playbooks, a prospecting workspace, quotes, team forecasting, conversation intelligence, and team and permission management designed for growing organisations. Some features depend on the edition. The underlying difference is that reps see, on the same record, what the contact did on the website, in marketing emails and with support.
Can Attio handle marketing?
It is not its territory. Attio lets you send emails from the CRM, but it does not include landing pages, email marketing campaigns, nurturing, ads management or revenue attribution. The usual approach is to connect external tools, with all the syncing and duplicates that brings.
Marketing Hub lives inside the CRM: forms, landing pages, emails, nurturing workflows, lead scoring, ads, social media and multi-touch attribution. For a startup moving from network-driven sales to generating demand through content and campaigns, this is usually where Attio falls short.
Before
- CRM for sales only
- Separate email tool
- Forms in another app
- Support in an external helpdesk
- Reports stitched by hand
After
- One CRM for every team
- Native Marketing Hub
- Built-in forms and landing pages
- Service Hub with tickets
- Full-funnel reporting
Customer service and customer success
Attio lets you manage accounts, customer health and renewals with lists and workflows, and it integrates with support tools, but it has no native ticketing, portal or knowledge base.
Service Hub does: shared inbox, tickets, SLAs, customer portal, knowledge base, surveys and the Breeze customer agent, all on the same CRM. Sales can see open issues before a renewal call, and customer success works from the full history.
Automation: credit-based workflows versus platform workflows
Attio has a powerful visual workflow builder with triggers, conditions, AI blocks and webhook calls. Runs consume workspace credits, shared with AI features, and several reviewers note that intensive processes burn through them quickly.
HubSpot workflows act on contacts, companies, deals, tickets and custom objects, with branches, delays, webhooks and custom code in higher editions, and they span marketing, sales and service at once. Most everyday automations also do not compete for the same credits as AI.
AI: Breeze versus Ask Attio and its agents
Attio has built its product with AI at the core: Ask Attio answers questions and creates records in natural language, agents research the web, score leads or draft follow-ups, and calls and emails are summarised automatically. Everything runs on per-user and per-workspace credits.
Breeze has a context advantage. Breeze Assistant works across the whole CRM, Breeze agents cover customer service, prospecting and data quality, and enrichment fills in company and contact details. Because marketing behaviour, pipeline and tickets live together in HubSpot, the AI has more signals to prioritise and draft accurately. Breeze also runs on credits that depend on the edition.
Reporting and analytics
Attio offers pipeline, forecast and rep performance reports, with the number of reports depending on the plan. Several reviews describe them as solid but lighter than those of established CRMs, especially for leadership.
HubSpot’s reports span the whole lifecycle: revenue attribution, visitor-to-customer funnel, pipeline velocity, forecasting, sales productivity and service performance. Data Hub adds datasets, data quality and syncing with other sources.
Integrations and API
Attio has a modern API, an SDK for building apps inside the product, an MCP server and an integration catalogue including Slack, Stripe, Mailchimp and Typeform. For a technical team it is a very pleasant environment. Some reviews do point out missing native connectors for more traditional tools.
HubSpot brings an App Marketplace with well over a thousand apps, APIs for objects, associations and webhooks, private apps, UI Extensions and serverless functions. Connectors for ERPs, invoicing, ecommerce and telephony usually already exist. When they do not, custom HubSpot integrations are built on well-proven patterns.
Ease of use and adoption
Attio is fast, clean and pleasant, and anyone coming from Notion will feel at home. Flexibility has a cost, though: someone has to design the model, and some users mention a steeper initial learning curve than they expected.
HubSpot is easy to adopt because it comes structured: reps understand contacts, companies and deals without explanation. The interface is consistent across every hub, and HubSpot Academy and the community make role-based training simple.
Implementation, pricing and total cost of ownership
Attio has a free plan with limits on users, objects and records, and paid per-user plans that add objects, reports, sequences, call recording and credits by tier; extra credits are sold separately. See Attio pricing.
HubSpot offers free CRM tools and Starter, Professional and Enterprise editions, per hub or as a bundle, with seats and credits depending on the edition. See HubSpot pricing. When calculating total cost, add to Attio the email marketing tool, the forms and landing page tool, the helpdesk and the hours spent maintaining integrations between them. With HubSpot, count the hubs you will use and an initial implementation that, in our projects, typically takes 4 to 8 weeks for Sales or Marketing Hub.
Support, community, partners and security
Support and ecosystem
Attio offers online help, an academy and a community, with a partner ecosystem that is still growing. HubSpot has one of the largest certified partner networks in the industry, with agencies specialising in implementation, RevOps and development across many countries and languages.
Security, GDPR and EU data hosting
Attio publishes its security information in a trust centre and offers controls such as permissions, SSO and SCIM depending on the plan. We could not find clear confirmation of EU data hosting in its public documentation, so ask if it is a requirement for you. HubSpot lets you host your account in its EU data centre and includes consent management and lawful basis tools designed with GDPR in mind.

When might Attio make sense?
Attio is a good choice in a few specific scenarios:
- An investment fund or firm managing unconventional relationships and opportunities with a very bespoke data model.
- An early-stage startup with technical founders that sells through its network and does not yet run demand generation.
- A team that likes building on the API and SDK and has someone dedicated to maintaining the model and workflows.
- A company that only needs a sales CRM and already has marketing and support covered by other tools it does not want to change.
Verdict: why HubSpot wins
For most growing companies, HubSpot is the better choice, for these reasons:
- It covers the entire customer lifecycle. Marketing, sales, service and content on one platform, with no need to assemble and sync tools around the CRM.
- Structure that speeds up adoption. The standard model works from day one and extends with custom objects when needed.
- Complete leadership reporting. Revenue attribution and end-to-end funnel, because all the data sits together.
- AI with more context. Breeze works with marketing behaviour, pipeline and service at the same time.
- A mature ecosystem. More ready-made integrations, more partners and more trained professionals, which lowers long-term risk and cost.
How to migrate from Attio to HubSpot
HubSpot Smart Transfer does not list Attio as a source, so the migration is done with CSV exports or, better, through the API to preserve relationships and history. The key steps:
- Objects: people, companies and deals become contacts, companies and deals. Attio custom objects become HubSpot custom objects or, if they are simple, properties.
- Attributes and lists: map each attribute to a property with the right field type. Lists with statuses usually become pipelines or dropdown properties.
- Relationships: relationship attributes become associations, with labels where there are several roles.
- History: notes, emails, meetings and calls need a plan of their own, because connecting inboxes to HubSpot does not always bring back the full past.
- Automation: rebuild workflows and sequences, and reconnect forms, Slack and invoicing.
Typical pitfalls are importing lists as if they were objects and skipping deduplication before the move. At Vexco we handle these CRM migrations with consultants and developers in the same team; for example, we migrated a SaaS fintech from Salesforce with around a dozen microservices for renewals, ARR and its data warehouse.
