HubSpot vs Close: a full comparison and which to choose
Close is a powerful CRM for phone-led sales teams; HubSpot brings marketing, sales and service together on one CRM. Here is where each one wins and which suits a growing business.
Close is one of the best CRMs for inside sales teams that live on the phone: calls, SMS, email and diallers on a single screen. HubSpot does all of that too with Sales Hub, and also puts marketing, customer service and leadership reporting on the same CRM. For most growing businesses HubSpot is the better choice; here we explain why, and when Close might be the right fit.
Quick verdict: Close wins on speed for a team of SDRs or closers who only call and email. HubSpot wins on everything around that call: where the lead came from, what they did before, what happens after the sale and which channel drives revenue. If your sales depend on more than the phone, choose HubSpot.
What are Close and HubSpot?
Close is a US CRM built by a team with an outbound sales background, and it shows. It is designed so a rep can hold many conversations a day without switching tabs: in-browser calling, SMS, two-way email, automated sequences and diallers. It is sold in per-user plans (Solo, Essentials, Growth and Scale, plus custom options) and its typical customer is an SMB with a very active inside sales team.
HubSpot is a customer platform built on Smart CRM. On top of it sit Marketing Hub, Sales Hub, Service Hub, Content Hub, Data Hub and Revenue Hub, with Breeze as the AI layer. Sales Hub is what competes with Close; the rest lets marketing, sales and service work from the same data without middleware.
CRM and data model
In Close, the central unit is the lead, which actually represents a company: inside it live its contacts, opportunities, activities and, if you use them, custom objects. It is a very practical model for calling into accounts, but it combines in one record concepts that other CRMs keep separate. Smart Views, saved searches used as working lists, are one of its best-loved features.
HubSpot keeps contacts, companies, deals and tickets separate, with labelled associations between them and custom objects on Enterprise. That makes things easy that are awkward in Close: a contact associated with several companies, deals with several stakeholders in different roles, or a ticket linked both to the customer and to the deal that created it. As your model grows, that separation saves a lot of workarounds.
Which is better for phone-led and outbound sales?
This is where Close shines. Calling and SMS are included on every plan, with telephony billed by usage; the power dialler arrives on Growth, and the predictive dialler and live coaching on Scale. Call recording, voicemail drop and the ability to work through a Smart View from top to bottom mean an SDR is productive from day one.
Sales Hub offers calling from the CRM, recording and transcription depending on edition, email and task sequences, task queues for bulk prospecting, meeting links and a prospecting workspace. For advanced diallers, HubSpot integrates with telephony providers such as Aircall or Ringover, which log every call on the record. The result is comparable for most teams, with one clear advantage: the call sits on the same record that marketing and service see.
Marketing: can Close capture leads?
Close supports bulk email, templates and sales sequences, but it does not aim to be a marketing platform. It has no landing pages, blog, advanced forms with nurturing, multichannel campaigns or revenue attribution by channel. Teams using it usually pair it with a separate marketing tool and sync contacts between the two.
In HubSpot, the lead who comes in through a form, opens the newsletter and returns to the pricing page appears in the SDR’s queue with all that context and a score. The rep knows why they are calling and what matters to that person, and leadership knows which campaigns end in sales. It is the difference between a cold call and a warm one.

Customer service and after-sales
Close has no support module: no tickets, knowledge base or customer portal. If you need to handle issues, manage renewals or measure satisfaction after the sale, you will have to add a helpdesk and integrate it.
Service Hub covers this on the same CRM: tickets, a shared inbox, chat, knowledge base, surveys and a customer portal, with Breeze’s Customer Agent able to answer common questions. For businesses with subscriptions or recurring services, having after-sales next to the sales history is decisive.
Automation
Close workflows, available from the Growth plan, combine emails, calls, SMS and tasks into sequences for each lead. They are excellent for sales cadences, but they focus on the sales process.
HubSpot workflows act on contacts, companies, deals, tickets and custom objects, and can chain marketing, sales and service together: route a lead to the right rep, create the deal, kick off onboarding when it is won and open a ticket if something goes wrong. On higher editions they support custom code and webhooks for bespoke cases.
AI: Breeze versus Chloe
Close has made a big bet on AI with Chloe, an AI sales agent built into the CRM that can make qualification calls, transcribe and summarise conversations, fill in fields and suggest next steps. Usage is measured in AI credits by plan, some capabilities such as Chloe in workflows start on Growth, and the launch has focused on customers in the United States and Canada, so it is worth confirming what is available in your country and language.
Breeze works with the context of all of HubSpot. Breeze Assistant drafts, summarises and prepares meetings; the Prospecting Agent researches accounts and prepares personalised outreach; the Customer Agent helps customers using your knowledge base; and the Data Agent helps enrich and maintain your records. The AI sees marketing, sales and service, not just the latest call, and that leads to better recommendations.
Reporting and leadership visibility
Close includes activity reports, an opportunity funnel and useful dashboards for a sales manager: calls, emails, conversions and performance per rep. Advanced custom charts come with the top plan.
In HubSpot, reports combine lead source, sales activity, deals and after-sales. You can see which campaigns generate meetings, which reps convert marketing leads best, or which customers raise the most tickets before renewal. For leadership that wants to see the whole funnel, the difference is huge.
Integrations and API
Close has a comprehensive API with an event log, connections to Zapier, Calendly and AI assistants, and an integration catalogue focused on what a sales team needs. For anything else, you will rely on the API or middleware.
HubSpot offers one of the broadest app ecosystems on the market, plus private apps, webhooks and UI Extensions to build right inside the record. Telephony, billing, ERP, e-commerce or WhatsApp usually have a connector, and anything that does not can be built. You can see examples in our HubSpot integrations.

Which is easier to use and implement?
Close is quick to learn: an SDR can be making calls on day one. HubSpot is also straightforward, with a consistent interface across hubs, a full mobile app and HubSpot Academy to train every role. Initial setup takes a little more work if you switch on several hubs, simply because there is more to decide.
In return, adoption is broader. Marketing, sales and service share one tool, so there is no need to keep each team on a different system or reconcile data every month.
Pricing and total cost of ownership
Close charges per user and plan, has no free plan and bills telephony by usage, with extras such as the Call Assistant or additional AI credits. HubSpot has free tools and Starter, Professional and Enterprise editions for each hub, with seats by user type. We do not publish figures; see HubSpot’s official pricing and Close’s official pricing.
To compare properly, add to Close the marketing tool, helpdesk and reporting tool you will need, plus the integrations that keep them in sync. For HubSpot, add only the hubs you will actually use. Done that way, total cost usually tips towards HubSpot as soon as the business needs more than calling.
Support, community, security and GDPR
Close offers a knowledge base and email support, and its community is very active on sales topics. HubSpot adds edition-based support, a huge community, HubSpot Academy and a global network of certified partners. At Vexco we are a HubSpot Diamond Solutions Partner with a 4.9/5 rating in HubSpot’s directory.
On security, Close holds a SOC 2 Type II report and runs on AWS, but we have not found an EU data hosting option in its public documentation, so ask before you decide. HubSpot lets you host your account in its EU data centre and offers a DPA, consent management and advanced controls on higher editions. For a European company that records calls, this is worth reviewing with your data protection officer.

When could Close make sense?
- An SDR or inside sales team whose job is almost entirely calling and emailing lists of leads.
- A company with no content marketing or website lead generation, where leads are bought or sourced through outbound.
- A business with no complex after-sales that does not need tickets or structured support.
- A team in the United States or Canada that wants to use a built-in AI voice agent right away.

Verdict: why HubSpot wins
- Calls with context. The rep sees where the lead came from, what they read and which tickets they have, and makes a better call.
- One platform. Marketing, sales and service with no syncs or parallel tools.
- AI across the whole customer. Breeze works with the full history, not just sales activity.
- Business reporting, not just activity reporting. You know what drives revenue, not only how many calls were made.
- Scales without switching CRM. Custom objects, teams, permissions and business units when you need them.
- EU data hosting and a partner ecosystem. Easier GDPR compliance and plenty of expert help.
How to migrate from Close to HubSpot
Close is not on the list of apps supported by Smart Transfer, so the migration is done with exports and its API. The key is transforming the model: each Close lead becomes a HubSpot company and its contacts become associated contacts; opportunities become deals associated with the company and the primary contact; and calls, emails, SMS and notes are recreated as activities with their original dates.
The tricky points are always the same: leads with no website or duplicate names that create repeated companies, lead-level custom fields that in HubSpot may belong to the company or the contact, call recordings you need to decide whether to migrate or archive, Smart Views that must be rebuilt as lists and views, and phone numbers, which you need to keep with your telephony provider.

- Week 3Test migration and telephony
- Week 4Sequences and training

At Vexco our consultants and developers work in the same team, which is key in API-based migrations like this one. If you would like us to plan it with you, tell us about your case on our CRM migration to HubSpot page.
